Stoughton’s Old Homes Deserve the Right Window
Respect Windows installs ProVia replacement windows in Stoughton, about ten miles southeast of our shop along the Yahara River. We quote from photos, measure every opening in person, and install with our own crew.
Nearly one in five Stoughton homes was built before 1940, a higher share than any other community we serve, Madison included. That Victorian and early-1900s housing, much of it built by Norwegian immigrant families, gives the city its character, and its windows need care.

Three Historic Districts and a Lot of Arches
The windows in Stoughton today
Stoughton has three residential historic districts on the National Register, the Northwest Side, the East Side and the Southwest Side, full of Italianate, Queen Anne and vernacular homes built between the 1850s and the 1930s. Tall double-hung windows, arched tops and odd-shaped attic and gable windows are everywhere in these neighborhoods.
Outside those districts, Stoughton’s housing is spread across every decade since, from 1970s ranches to newer subdivisions. The older homes are where replacement takes the most thought, though, because a window that looks wrong on a Queen Anne is noticed from the street.
| Built | Share of Stoughton homes | Homes, roughly |
|---|---|---|
| Before 1960 | 24% | About 1,390 |
| 1960 to 1979 | 27% | About 1,560 |
| 1980 to 1999 | 29% | About 1,680 |
| 2000 and newer | 20% | About 1,160 |

Common questions
Stoughton Window Replacement FAQ
Do you install replacement windows in Stoughton?
Yes. Stoughton is about ten miles southeast of our shop. We quote from photos, measure in person, and our own crew installs.
Can you match the arched windows on my Victorian house?
Yes. ProVia builds arches, half-rounds and other specialty shapes to the measured size and curve of your opening. A photo from inside and outside of each arched window is enough to start the quote.
Does living in a historic district limit my window choices?
For Stoughton’s National Register districts, listing alone does not limit a private owner. A locally designated landmark can be different, so if your home carries that designation, check with the city first. Either way we can quote a window that keeps the original look.
Is it worth replacing original wood windows on an old house?
It depends on their condition. Sound original sash can be worth keeping. If the wood is rotting, the glass is loose, or the windows will not open or stay open, a replacement with the same proportions is usually the better long-term choice. We will tell you honestly which yours are.
