The Closest Town to Our Shop

Respect Windows installs ProVia replacement windows throughout Monona, from the Lake Monona shoreline to the ranches off Monona Drive. Our shop on Seiferth Road is barely outside the city, so the measure, the install and any callback afterward never take long to fit in.

Monona’s median home was built in 1963, the oldest of any community we serve. Nearly half the houses here went up before 1960, so most windows in town are either original or already on their second set.

The windows in Monona today

More Monona homes were built in the 1950s than in any other decade, 28 percent of the housing in one ten-year stretch. That makes it the most mid-century community we work in. Low ranches, long roof lines, and a big fixed pane in the living room facing the street or the water.

That big pane is usually the first thing homeowners want gone. On a house this age it is often an early sealed unit that has fogged, or single glass that frosts on the inside every January. Bedrooms tend to have narrow sliders or small double-hungs set high in the wall, hard to open and harder to clean. On the lakefront, the glass facing the water takes the afternoon sun all summer and the wind off the ice all winter.

Built Share of Monona homes Homes, roughly
Before 1960 45% About 1,950
1960 to 1979 24% About 1,040
1980 to 1999 11% About 480
2000 and newer 21% About 910

Monona has 4,341 homes in all. Source, US Census Bureau, American Community Survey 2020 to 2024 five-year estimates, table B25034, rounded.

Replacing Windows in Monona

Lake Monona is part of the jobLakefront glass faces the harshest exposure in town, low summer sun off the water and a cold wind across the ice. Low-E glass cuts the fading on floors and furniture, and a tight-sealing casement or fixed pane stands up to the wind.
Five minutes, not fiftyA callback in Monona is a quick trip for us. If a lock needs adjusting in March or a screen needs swapping, it is a small errand rather than a scheduling problem.
Same-size openings keep it simpleMost Monona replacements go into the existing opening at the existing size, which keeps the job to the window itself. If you want a bigger picture window or a new egress opening, ask the City of Monona about a permit before we order.

Common questions

Monona Window Replacement FAQ

Do you install replacement windows in Monona?

Yes, and it is the closest community to us. Our shop at 2601 Seiferth Rd is about a mile and a half from the middle of Monona, so we can usually measure within days of your quote.

What should replace the big picture window in a 1950s Monona ranch?

Usually a new ProVia picture window at the same size, with casements on each side if you want the room to open. If you want the room to feel bigger, a bow window is the other option. Send a photo of the window from inside and outside and we will price both.

Why do my Monona windows frost up on the inside?

Frost on the inside of the glass means the pane is colder than the room air can handle, which is common with single glass and early sealed units in houses this age. Low-E, argon-filled glass with a warm-edge spacer keeps the inside surface much warmer, so frost and condensation drop off sharply. Our winter condensation guide lists the indoor humidity to aim for at each outdoor temperature.

Do lakefront homes in Monona need a different window?

Not a different brand, but the glass choice matters more. Lake-facing walls get strong sun and wind, so we lean toward Low-E glass and tight-sealing casements or fixed panes on that side of the house.
