The windows in Verona today
A large share of Verona’s houses are two-story family homes from the 2000s and 2010s. The second-floor windows are the ones nobody enjoys dealing with. They are hard to clean and hard to reach, and in many of these houses they are the same builder vinyl as the rest.
Many of these homes also have a two-story great room with stacked fixed glass, often with an arched transom on top. Those big panes and odd shapes make up much of the wall, so they are a big part of the heating bill. The older homes near downtown, from before the growth, have a different mix of wood and aluminum windows.

Can I get a federal tax credit for replacement windows in 2026?
No. The federal Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit ended for windows installed after December 31, 2025. Windows placed in service during 2025 can still be claimed on the 2025 return, but a 2026 install does not qualify.

Tall walls of builder glass lose a lot of heat, and cold air falls off the glass toward the floor. Low-E, argon-filled glass with warm-edge spacers keeps the inside of the glass warmer, which cuts that draft.
Are replacement windows worth it on a house built in 2005?
If the windows are drafting, fogging or hard to operate, usually yes. Builder-grade windows from that period were chosen for price, and many are wearing out now. If yours still work well, there is no need to rush, and we will tell you so.
